An Introvert’s View of Quarantine Life

When they first told me about a quarantine and having to stay home, I was like “Well, I do that anyway. Cool. Now I really don’t have to see people or have them try to hug me.” It was all good for a while. But then….

They Closed my Starbucks

Maybe once or twice a week, I used to do a mobile order and hit Starbucks. No one was usually there, they opened at 5:30 a.m. and I was happy. Then they started closing the Starbucks. They closed the ones that weren’t drive thru. Now, I don’t see why they closed THAT particular one due to where it is located. I mean, it’s at the National Harbor. People LIVE there. Granted, people can’t shop there much at the present but people still live there and were doing mobile orders so why close? They took all the furniture out of the dining area and all that. Why did they do that to me?

Because of this, I had to go to the closest drive thru. Listen, there are some things that make me happy in my life and my Venti Chai is one of them. Give me SOME happiness out of the chaos, you know? So I pretty much had to make that trip but then I noticed that there was a flippin Panera across the way from the Starbucks. Well…..now you’ve got me. You see, when I worked in Fairfax, they had Panera. At said Panera, they had Asiago bagels. I am a cheese lover. This made me happy. Sooooooo, guess who got rehooked on dang on Asiago bagels. So here is the conundrum (spell check had to help me spell this because I can say it but I can’t spell it): There is no Panera in or near the National Harbor where I usually get my drink. So that means that if I want Panera, I need to hit the Starbucks out there in Clinton so I can kill two birds with one stone. However, that consumes gas that I never had to use because I work from home and do pretty much everything but buy groceries from home. Blah to that.

Why I Gotta Be the Teacher?

In all my life, you have never heard me say that teachers don’t deserve more money. I have said this forever. Their job is to shape the young minds of our kids in ways that many parents aren’t able to or don’t care to. I always say that there is no reason that a person with a job as important as that should be making less than me. I read medical charts for a living. I mean, big whoop. Yes, I provide information and stats in the medical world to facilitate payment information and all that but yeah, I mean, they’re dealing with our kids. I have a great kid but, as you saw in Having a Child with an Intellectual Disability WHILE Dealing with Your Own Mental Illness, I also got into an actual fight with her. Now, while I can’t fight her like some broad on the street, teachers can’t even fight some of the demon spawn they have to deal with. We see videos all the time of kids thinking it’s okay to blatantly disrespect their elders. Who knows what they do at home? But yeah….I don’t wanna be a teacher anymore.

Many parents feel that it’s the teacher’s job to raise their child and it’s not. Many don’t care if their kids go to school or not. They just know that their kids can get free food (if they get free or reduced lunch) but many don’t actually care. It was hard for me to come to grips with that. I have friends that are teachers and they go above and beyond for those kids. It irks me. I mean, I have said many times that I have walked past the high school bus stop and it smelled like a weed factory. So who knows how some of these kids are acting when they get to school. I just know that I’m not here for it.

Selfish People

Where did all the toilet paper go? How come Amazon won’t help me out when I’m a Subscribe and Save member that orders her toilet paper in advance? Why are the police at Target watching the line of people in line (not social distancing) to get toilet paper? WTF is going on? Why did I go to CVS and pay an arm and a leg for paper towels (good thing I had Extra Bucks)? I don’t understand the logic here at all. It reminds me of the movie The Platform on Netflix. If you haven’t watched it, you should because it shows how greedy and selfish people are. Take everything in excess while not caring about the people “below” you that need the same thing you need. I am a Subscribe and Save member for Lysol wipes as well as wet wipes so I had many things already just because you should have those things (and my daughter is a flagrant public bathroom user and I am a germaphobe). I even gave some away. We’re all gonna wipe our butts and wipe stuff down in my camp. But yeah, I don’t understand why people can’t just take what they need and move on.

People are SO selfish that, even though they are telling us to put masks on, they refuse to and are fighting to have places like hair and nail salons reopened. Because looking good is the most important thing right now. Like who you lookin good for? I mean, there are people out here, like me, that still have to work. But most people are working from home. No need to start a riot because you want to get a hair cut and stuff. People in Michigan, where my friend lives, are out there with guns demanding their right to get their stupid hair cut. Yay! (Oh you know another blog is coming about what is going on out here now)

No Puzzles

Man, there were no puzzles on Amazon for a while so I had to pull an old one that I had gotten from Barnes and Noble about a year ago out of the closet. Is it done? It’s 1500 pieces. My daugher and I practiced sorting with it. I was proud. I was being a good mom and invested in my daughter’s learning experiences through this trying time. No one expected it to last darn near forever.

My Bestie WAS Pregnant and I Can’t Even See My Lil Booger

I saw my bestie when I took off a whole week and did random things. It was a happy time. I wanted to be able to feel her belly and all that. I did… then. Nik Nik came out on Sunday, May 31st. He came out one day before his due date. I was going to do a drive by that day but he came out so now I have to do a drive by to see him outside the belly which is fine but I can’t hold him or anything. Sucks.

In the End…..

These little stupid gripes are nothing compared to what other people all over the world are contending with. I watch 90 Day Fiance and they are talking about the measures taken around the world regarding COVID and, what we’re going through is NOTHING compared to other countries. We can still go out for walks or runs. I take Gary out for walks. We walk to my parent’s house and wave at them from afar. In Nicaragua, they are burning bodies in the street. In any countries, you have to have like a flippin Hall Pass to even go to the store or be out on the street. You can’t take walks. You will get a fine. In Africa, you will be arrested for being out past curfew. So, so what if we can’t get our hair and nails done. YouTube is a thing. USE IT!

I vowed to do a lot of things during this quarantine and the only thing I was able to succeed in doing was change my bathroom up and not die. So…. there’s that. Because so many people are going through some things and sometimes don’t know where their money is coming from, I have done little things to brighten my friend’s days by getting them little gifts. I meant to tell you guys about my friends. I have a GREAT set of friends. We’re extra random and everyone just wants to help which is great. I miss them. I miss my gym. Talking mess with my buddies while I claim a treadmill was great. Now, every time I watch Family Feud, I think of them and it makes me sad. I know we’ll be able to come back together. I hope they’re all okay.

I just have to sing Keep the Faith by Michael Jackson in my head. Too bad things only got worse.

Blogging about life. Well, my life. As a black, bipolar, mom to a teenager with special needs, well, there is always a story to tell. From my aversion to having a man to my weird experiences while trying to avoid people, it's all there. Being me is.... different but it always makes for good blogs.
